HGTV’s BATTLE ON THE BEACH SEASON 2

How did it start?

Very suddenly! Out of the blue, we received a message via instagram from an HGTV producer asking if we’d be interested in interviewing for a competition show. We interviewed right away and then didn’t hear a thing for a few months - we figured we blew it! Fast forward 4 months later and we get a call that they want us on the show! We only had 2 days notice and no time to prepare, but we were excited to take on a new challenge together so off we went! Here’s some photos from our time on set!

What was your strategy?

Beds and heads! We knew this would be a vacation home and therefore the more people you can sleep, the more value added! As real estate agents we also know that a removable item doesn’t add value - so we added built in’s in as many rooms as possible! Built in shelves in both the kitchen and living room, the built in bench with the port holes, the kids bunk beds that could sleep 5, the built in bunk beds in the guest room - we were adding built ins everywhere we could! And when we had the extra money at the very end we were THRILLED to be have the extra budget to add the built in outdoor kitchen! We feel that really put our beach house over the top!

How did it end?

Finale day was intense: the judges were diving into our homes and being pretty critical of everyone. We had yet to see our competitions houses and had no idea what we were up against, but when they called out our name at the very end announcing we won by $20,000 in added value, we were over the moon! One of the best days of our lives to know all our hard work had paid off and we’d be bringing back the win to not only our home town of Fort McMurray, but also to Canada!

Was it a fun experience?

We’d be lying if we said it was easy - it was a lot of work! 6 days a week we were on set trying to renovate a house on very tight timelines with supply chain issues being even worse in Texas than here in Canada, and all while also trying to make a TV show and being stopped to film throughout the day. We were pushed to the limits and not only were our skills being put to the test, so was our marriage. But in our limited down time we did make the most of the experience and made some friendships to last a lifetime. Here’s a sneak peak at some of the fun we had during our time in Galveston Texas!
